Hot on the heels of the Top 50 Highest Paid Footballers comes a list of the 25 most expensive transfers in world football up to 2009. Yes I know this will probably soon get muddled up when Man City sign Eto’o, or Super Cesc hops back to his native land, but for now, here are the most expensive transfers to date.

In general I have to say that it’s hard to argue that most of these footie bods are pretty decent, but a few eyebrows might be raised at a couple of hem. Has Berbatov really justified his price tag? I think most Man U fans would take Rooney over Berb any day of the week – arguably even Tevez. And shrewd business by Arsene Wenger back in 1999 sticking Anelka on Real Madrid in my opinion. 10 years on and not only is this transfer still in the Top 25, but Anelka still hasn’t fully justified that tag. Bolton got a bargain on that basis.

Are these adjusted for inflation? Numbers are always skewed when talking money and not considering inflation.
For example the highest box office hit ever was:
Titanic .9 Billion U.S. Dollars
But not really, adjusted for inflation it ranks 6th
Gone with the Wind made 1.4 Billion U.S. Dollars
Star Wars, Sound of Music, E.T., and the 10 Commandments trump Titanic easily.
