I’v always loved Saturdays. For years, it’s been footie day…from Noon through to 5pm it’s my “me time”! But more and more, Saturday premiership games are dwindling. 3 or 4 games at 3pm is not uncommon and often the smaller clubs. Speaking personally, I’m losing interest.
I guess the reason is money. The lucrative overseas markets mean many games get scheduled to times that suit those audiences. At the expense of the home footie fan. Soccer Saturday is my favourite programme but it needs the games to make it work. I don’t want to watch 3 or 4 live games every week. One, maybe two is plenty. And as for the supporters that have to work out travel plans…I feel for them. It gets harder and harder…maybe they should move to Thailand?
I hope the FA eventually go back to a proper Saturday 3pm programme Doesn’t have to be all 10 games, but at least 6 would work. Preferably more. A Sunday TV game…sure. Even a Saturday 5pm game for the 500 or so people that have Setanta. But Saturday 3pm should be where it’s at.
