I take part in the FA Premier League Fantasy Football every year…if you haven’t tried it then you really must, it’s excellent and beats all other fantasy football games hands down. I’ve been playing this one for 5 years now, since it was run by a couple of guys off their own back and before the FAPL bought it over.
The thing I really like about this fantasy game is that there are few restrictions. While many games limit you to 1 or 2 subs and once you’ve made the changes, that’s it, you can spend hours on this one (if you feel so inclined) chopping and changing your team around every week. Every Friday I’m there, doing my subs, and every Saturday from 3pm to 5pm I have it open and watch the points accrue in real-time.
There are of course a number of tips I can offer if you play it (over 1,000,000 others do!) . So here are my Top 3…just don’t use them to beat me! By the way, the game is free to play too!
Transfers: You get one free transfer every week, then it’s 4 points per transfer to go sparingly. But transfer early in the week if possible. It can be risky, especially with International matches and cup games which could potentially lead to injuries, but because each players value fluctuates depending on how many people sub him in or out, if you beat the rush, you can increase your team value, which in turn gives you more money as teh season progresses with which to get better players. You start the season with £100,000,000 – by the end you hope to have @ £110 million or more if you play it right.
Type Of Players: Because goals and assist give you points, you want players who obviously score regularly or set them up. Think of this when picking defenders and midfielders in particular. Do the players take free-kicks, corners and set pieces? If so, they are worth having for the assists. Do defenders come forward at corners? Again, good news. Is the player the regular penalty taker? More goals!
Fixture Lists: Careful…sometimes teams have a week off or conversely, play twice. You want to know this in advance so you can plan substitutions accordingly without suddenly finding you need to make 3 or 4 in one week at a cost of points.
