2009 – a 100% record, and that despite being drawn in a pairing with Andy “Bad shoulder, not played for 4 months, bad back, 18 handicap, putter” Parsons. OK, so I’ve only played one game, on the Dale Hill old course today, but it was against Bod and Ads (off 11 and 16 respectively) so not going to complain, especially having been 3 down after 8 holes.
Ads had a problem – “something dodgy I ate last night” – yeah right, which ruled him out of the 9th and 10th, and proved the turning point. My only birdie on the 9th – in fact the only birdie any of us managed on the day I think rather shockingly – and pars from APP and me on 10 meant when Ads rejoined us, they were only 1 up. Although he forgot the reason for coming back was to help his errant partner. So they lost the next 2 too. Ah well. We didn’t like to complain.
Nice day for golf as it goes. We were the first out at 08.20 so had a free run at the course which was relatively dry and in good nick. No frost, wind, snow or rainĀ either which was a bonus. Another bonus was Bod’s putting – put a smile on our faces it must be said, expecially when he missed two 1 footers after laughing at our efforts.
Ads played very well first few holes and the last few holes. Started Par-Par-Par. Bod was up-and-down, mainly down in the 2nd 9 but quite up in the first 9, and APP was in and out of the game – not unusual- and played his part in a victory that gets us both off to the perfect start for 2009.
For my own record, I ended up 13 over (playing off 12) but only thanks to driving 11 of 13 fairways mind you – the 2nd shots and putting was very average. Winners and losers below – the smiles give away which is which while the clothing gives away the time of year.
